What is extrait de parfum, and what does 35% mean?
Velario labels its single fragrances as 35% extrait de parfum in 50 ml bottles. Extrait is a fragrance format descriptor; its name alone does not establish a universal percentage. The three catalog examples below share the stated concentration but describe different scent profiles, showing why concentration and composition should be compared separately.
| Profile | Top | Heart | Base |
|---|---|---|---|
| Velario Aqua | Grapefruit, Lemon, Mint, Pink Pepper | Ginger, Jasmine, Nutmeg, Melon | Sandalwood, Cedar, Amber, Labdanum |
| Velario Poudre | Aldehydes, Ylang-Ylang, Neroli, Bergamot | Jasmine, Rose, Iris, Lily of the Valley | Sandalwood, Vetiver, Vanilla, Musk |
| Velario Shy | Orange Blossom, Honey, Neroli | Iris, Rose, Jasmine, Marshmallow Accord | Vanilla, Musk, Amber |
How can one concentration describe different scents?
Aqua’s opening lists citrus and mint; Poudre’s includes aldehydes and ylang-ylang; Shy’s includes orange blossom, honey, and neroli. Their shared 35% specification does not erase these compositional differences. Choose the profile first, then consider bottle size, price, and your own experience.
How does extrait compare with EDP and EDT?
Those labels describe fragrance formats, but they are not a universal numerical scale. The exact product can use a different composition as well as a different stated concentration. Use the concentration comparator for arithmetic and the official reference page for the actual edition. Do not assign 20% to every EDP or 10% to every EDT.
Can the label establish quality?
No. A concentration percentage does not independently establish ingredient quality, suitability, projection, or preference. Velario’s published 35% specification should be read alongside its complete description. It is not a substitute for comparative testing or a reason to claim every lower-percentage fragrance is inferior.
Terminology reference: IFRA on fragrance-format descriptors. See the concentration comparator for arithmetic examples.
